My name is Stephanie Dickens and I am so very proud to be a Comer Comet! This year is my twenty-seventh year as an educator. My initial degree was in Middle Grades Education from the University of Georgia in 1998. In 2004, I completed my Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, also from UGA. I finished my third graduate program in 2019, earning a Specialist’s Degree in Teacher Leadership from Valdosta State University. Additionally, I hold a Gifted Endorsement and a certificate in Tier 1 Administrative Leadership. After twenty-four years in the classroom and two years as Comer Elementary Assistant Principal, I am most honored to assume the role of principal for the 2024-25 school year!

As a classroom teacher, I worked with elementary-aged students of all abilities, and I am passionate about differentiating appropriately to accommodate students’ individual learning styles and capitalize on students’ unique strengths. I recognize that strong positive relationships with both students and parents through community building and effective communication are key to student success. And, I firmly believe that the most important job of an educator at any level is meeting students where they are and doing whatever it takes to help them be the very best they can be! It is my goal to have these principles at the forefront of everything I do as your Comer Elementary Principal.

Outside of being an educator, my most important roles are that of wife and mother. My husband Jason and I have four children: Jake (25), Luke (23), Abby (21), and JR (17).

I am so grateful to work in this special community and honored to lead as we partner for another year of helping our Comets SOAR ABOVE!

Thankful for your support,

Stephanie Dickens

Assistant Principal

My name is Nathan Herndon, and I am extremely honored to be a Comer Comet. This year will

be my 20th year in education. The first degree that I received was a Bachelor of Science in History from Georgia College and State University in 1997. Although I ran my father’s construction company ‘Granite City Acoustical’ for years, I was not fulfilled until I realized my calling to be a teacher. Shortly after the transition into education, I received my Master’s Degree in Special Education from Piedmont College in 2005. In 2011, I earned my Specialist’s Degree in Teaching and Learning from Piedmont University. In addition to the degrees, I hold a Gifted Endorsement and a certificate in Tier 1 Administrative Leadership from the University of West Georgia. After twenty years in the classroom, I am privileged to be the Assistant Principal at Comer Elementary for the 2024-25 school year!

While in the classroom, I worked with middle school students as I taught English Language Arts. I love finding unique ways to reach each student based on how they learn best which makes the most of their individual strengths. I believe that building positive relationships with both students and parents is important for student success. For me, the most important part of being a teacher is helping students believe in themselves and guiding them to achieve their full potential. My motto has always been, “If I could get every student to view themselves as I view them, they would accomplish anything that they want in life.” I also believe in an environment that promotes key principles such as kindness, respect, empathy, and responsibility among students. I am proud to engage in these actions daily which builds a positive culture and encourages a family atmosphere in our school building. It is my passion to have these key principles at the forefront of everything I do as your Assistant Principal at Comer Elementary.

Outside of being an educator, my most important roles are that of husband and dad. My wife Hannah and I have two children: Noah (20), and Lydia (16) --- both who are Comer Comet alums:)

I am so grateful to work in the Comer community in which I make my home. I am ready to show Comer Elementary and our students my heart. SOAR ABOVE!

Thank you for your support,

Nathan Herndon
