My name is Stephanie Dickens and I am so very proud to be a Comer Comet! This year is my twenty-eighth year as an educator. My initial degree was in Middle Grades Education from the University of Georgia in 1998. In 2004, I completed my Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, also from UGA. I finished my third graduate program in 2019, earning a Specialist’s Degree in Teacher Leadership from Valdosta State University. Additionally, I hold a Gifted Endorsement and a certificate in Tier 1 Administrative Leadership. I am currently pursuing a Tier II Administrative Leadership certificate from the University of West Georgia. After twenty-four years in the classroom and two years as Comer Elementary Assistant Principal, I was honored to assume the role of principal for the 2024-25 school term. I can’t wait to see what my second year as Comer Principal has in store!

As a classroom teacher, I worked with elementary-aged students of all abilities, and I am passionate about differentiating appropriately to accommodate students’ individual learning styles and capitalize on students’ unique strengths. I recognize that strong positive relationships with both students and parents through community building and effective communication are key to student success. And, I firmly believe that the most important job of an educator at any level is meeting students where they are and doing whatever it takes to help them be the very best they can be! I will continue to have these principles at the forefront of everything I do as your Comer Elementary principal.

I am so grateful to work in this special community and honored to lead as we partner for another year of helping our Comets SOAR ABOVE!

Thankful for your support,

Stephanie Dickens

Mrs. Laura Minish

Assistant Principal

Hi, I’m Laura Minish, the Assistant Principal at Comer Elementary. I’ve had the privilege of working in education for fourteen years. I have taught first, second, and third grade, supported gifted education in fourth grade, and served as our school’s Parent Engagement Specialist. In 2020–2021, I was honored to be named the Madison County School District Teacher of the Year—an experience I’ll always treasure.

I hold an Education Specialist degree and a Tier I Leadership Certificate from the University of West Georgia. For me, the most rewarding part of teaching is watching children learn to read. Reading is a gift every child deserves, and I love helping them discover that joy.

Although I grew up in nearby Elbert County, my heart belongs to Madison County. I’ve been proud to serve on the Comer City Council and continue to help plan our annual Christmas in Comer events. When I’m not at school, I enjoy spending time with my three wonderful children and staying active in the community I call home.
